STRENGTH IN OUR WEAKNESS

Exodus 17:8-13

In a valley far below a fierce battle was raging between the Lord’s army and the Amalekites. The sun caught the tips of razor-sharp spears, and they glistened as they whizzed through the air, hurtling toward targets of flesh. Swords clashed, and men crumpled onto blood-stained soil, screaming and writhing in pain.

On the hill above, Moses looked over this holy battle. In his hand he upheld the staff of God. The victory depended on Moses and his task to keep the staff of the LORD raised into the air. After hours of battle the excruciating pain of fatigue was settling into his arm.

“Perhaps I’ll rest for just a moment,” he may have thought. As his arm lowered, and relief coursed through his muscles, the men of God’s army begin to fall at an alarming rate. In merely a moment the tables were turning! Moses strained, his knuckles white and face red as he lifted his arm back into the air. Immediately, the Israelites began to regain ground.

How impossible it must have seemed for Moses to remain in this position, with his arms held in a proclamation of God’s victory. His arms began to sag under his own weight, and his legs began to buckle. Fortunately, Moses was not alone on that hilltop. Aaron and Hur were right there beside him. They found a large stone for him so he could rest his weary legs. Then they stood, one on each side, and held up Moses’ arms for him until the battle ended triumphantly.

Throughout our walk with Christ, and our experience in ministry, we take the role of either a Moses, or an Aaron. This story can apply to you, whether you are feeling weary, or full of vitality and strength.

Moses

As we make our way through life, there are times when the battle is raging, and we want only to put our arms down and give up. We must keep our arms outstretched to the Father for souls to be reached, and for the battle against Satan to be won. As trials come our way, and we grow weary, it is important to have a rock to rest on, and to have someone to help uphold our arms.

Isaiah 40:29-31 tells us that, “[God] gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and now grown weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

If you are a Moses today, take heart, God sees your struggle. If you lean on Him, your everlasting rock, then He will renew your strength. Through your perseverance, God’s plan for redemption and victory can be carried out through your uplifted arms.

Aaron

Perhaps after reading this account you thought to yourself, “Spiritually I am not weary. My arms are not feeling weak, and my legs feel strong and firmly planted.” In that case, I’m sure you have a Moses nearby. Perhaps the task of an Aaron seems mundane, or miniscule compared to holding in your very hands the staff of the LORD. However, Aaron and Hur held a very crucial role in the battle that day. For, although it was through Moses’ hands the victory was won for the Lord, the outcome I’m sure could have been much different if it weren’t for the devotion of Aaron and Hur. 1 Thessalonians tells us we must, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up (…).”

The Jesus Gives Life team, as well as other ministers and missionaries desperately need the prayers of Aarons and Hurs. It is through your prayers that our arms can remain lifted, that we can continue doing God’s ministry, and that the battle for souls can end victoriously in the name of the Lord.

We want also to be an Aaron for you. If you have a need you would like to share, please e-mail us at the following e-mail address, or use the form on our contact page
